I've been a creative in some shape or form for most of my life, with varying degrees of success, picking up various skills along the way, including spray painting graffiti and murals, photography, film production and animation, and more recently some upcycling and woodwork.
I’ve been painting on walls from the age of about 14, when at the request of my school I painted 4 separate murals in the classroom corridors.
In my 20s I became the unofficial resident graffiti artist for a Durham City beer garden, spray painting numerous pieces there over the years, more recently going on to paint the front of some business properties, quite often using stencil work now instead of freehand, but not long ago commissioned to paint two freehand pieces at a local skatepark, some of which can be seen on my Instagram account including some time-lapse video.
Alongside my beer garden graffiti work I also became one of the contributing artists for a skateboard company in Brighton, having a number of designs used and printed on t-shirts and skateboards, including a design for a professional skateboarder's signature skateboard.
A few years ago I turned my hand to canvas, preferring acrylics, incorporating the stencil work if possible, usually taking inspiration from sci-fi/comics/films/pop art, taking a character and painting in my own style, but recently I've been focusing on The Great Wave off Kananga, choosing a small section, changing the colour palette and painting the waves in as fingers, I not long ago finished a 30 by 80cm canvas and now currently working on a 20 by 20cm canvas 4 piece set in hot pinks.
I like to shoot landscape photography, usually long exposure, almost surreal, stretching the clouds or smoothing out water, I like anything involving remnants of North East Industrial Heritage being reclaimed by nature, the "Seaham Wheels" at Nose's Point is a favourite of mine, the Pier at Crimdon too, I have numerous photography examples on my Instagram account.
I’m also fully trained in media production techniques, with two degrees in television and film, I'm highly proficient in editing film and photography, sound design and other media production methods, having graduated less than 10 years ago with a 1st class Honours Degree and a Masters with Distinction. I have had a film accepted into a film festival and have had a short film place as runner up in its category.
I upcycle old furniture, using reclaimed skateboards to create intricate patterns with the multicoloured layers of wood laminate, again see my Instagram account for examples, the Pew and Side Cabinet are the best examples I think.
As I say, please have a look at my Instagram account for examples of my work.
