Goddess Rising:Skye
Jean Spence
£350.00
This textile piece was made from recycled materials including pure silk and blackout cotton. It is hand embroidered using a range of threads.
In ancient civilisations and religions, including those associated with the Celts who inhabit the western isles of which Skye is a part, the moon is a female deity. Using a photograph that I had taken in Skye, the structure of this piece was laid out by my daughter, my grand-daughter and myself, and my young granddaughter cut out the moon. The fabric used comes from items used by women in my family, including my late mother. I was responsible for the final production which I worked whilst thinking about the relationship between femininity and the moon.
