Myrtle MacPherson was an Important political activist in East Durham. She was a dinner lady in local schools, served Labour councillor in Easington. She was a member of Women Against Pit Closures and supported local miners throughout the 1984-85 strike, as well as campaigning to stop pit closures as a member of the Vane Tempest women's vigil in 1993.
